Hey, I'm Alec
I am an all round web developer building an in-house website
for a growing gas and electricity supplier. I can build
database-driven web applications from the ground up using Javascript on
the front-end and PhP/MySQL on the back-end. I am passionate about code
quality and effective web design. I have a PhD in pure mathematics and can pick up and learn
abstract concepts extremely quickly. Most importantly, I love web development and learning as much about it
as I can.

My Experience
Lancaster University
Jun 2018 - Current
Web Developer
At the moment, I am employed by Lancaster University, which means I am both an employee and a returning alumnus of the University! Within this role, I create the tools and write the code that allows our team of content creators to build and structure custom pages on the university website. This role has allowed me to gain intimate experience with the TERMINALFOUR CMS, which is widely used by many universities and institutions throughout the world. I develop code for the front-end using technologies such as Javascript, jQuery and the Vue and Foundation frameworks; for the back-end, good old-fashioned plain PhP.
Gulf Gas & Power UK
Dec 2017 - Jun 2018
Web Developer
Gulf Gas and Power UK, a growing gas and electricity supplier, was the first
company I worked for after my PhD. My job involved building a bespoke in-house customer driven website that facilitated easy sign up and
allowed existing customers to manage their accounts, bills and energy in an easy to understand fashion. Stack included Vue, a
Javascript framework, and Laravel, a PhP framework. You can view the website in its current iteration at here: much of the currently existing functionality is based on work done by myself and others during this period of employment.
Wootten Consulting
Aug 2012 - Sep 2013
Web Development Intern
I was picked up by a small start-up after leaving my first degree and tasked with maintaining
the company's Wordpress website; this role would gradually evolve over the year into full-blown application development using PhP
and MySQL, and some jQuery in the front-end. My major project for the company was Consulti, a tool that assisted businesses by providing
easy access to a range of consultants in different areas.
